The Why Behind the Work
For the 2024 Birmingham Home & Garden Inspiration Home, the goal was to create a cozy retreat within the larger show home experience. The guest nook was envisioned as a charming, unexpected moment that felt intimate and welcoming. Rather than playing it safe, the intention was to use joyful color and layered pattern to create a space that made visitors smile. The aim was simple but powerful: design a guest space that felt warm, memorable, and full of personality.

How We Brought It to Life
The design began with the charming niche between the two closets. Rather than leaving it as an in-between space, it became the heart of the room. Placing a full-size bed within that architectural moment created an intimate retreat that felt intentional and cozy from the start. The wallpaper was a print I had admired for some time, and this felt like the perfect opportunity to finally bring it to life. From there, the palette unfolded naturally, anchored by a rich green tone that gave the space depth and character.
Designing for a public show home required balancing creative freedom with restraint, ensuring the space felt expressive while remaining timeless. Layering pattern, art, and meaningful pieces was key to making the room feel collected rather than staged. Mixing unexpected prints and incorporating personal and locally sourced artwork gave the space warmth and authenticity. The bathroom was designed to complement the bedroom, continuing the layered, curated feeling so guests experienced a cohesive and elevated retreat rather than two disconnected spaces.
Intentional Design Choices

The Finished Space
The finished guest nook feels intimate, layered, and full of personality. What began as a simple architectural niche became a cozy retreat that draws you in immediately. The confident use of color and pattern creates energy without overwhelming the space, striking a balance between playful and polished. Visitors to the Inspiration Home were welcomed into a room that felt thoughtfully curated rather than staged. Paired with a complementary bathroom that continues the layered design story, the space offers guests a complete, elevated escape that is both joyful and refined.
